The ColourPop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks come in transparent packaging topped with a silver cap, allowing visibility of the lipstick shade. However, the color may differ slightly from what you see in the tube. The silver cap features a standard doe-foot applicator that is elongated enough to ensure a good pick-up of product. Each tube is filled generously, providing a substantial amount of product for long-term use. It’s important to secure the cap tightly; otherwise, the liquid lipstick may dry out. While the packaging isn’t the most durable, and the ColourPop branding can wear off over time, it is leak-proof and travel-friendly.
Mars is a strikingly bright fuchsia pink that compliments a variety of skin tones, with its blue undertones enhancing the whiteness of teeth. At first, the lipstick’s tube is full, and overfilling may occur when trying to apply the product while capping it. The lipstick has a liquid texture that allows for easy application before it sets in about 30 seconds. However, after some time, the formula thickens, and you’ll have less than 8 seconds to apply it before it locks into place.
As one of the original offerings from ColourPop, the formula is on the drier side. It’s notably one of the most matte liquid lipsticks available, which may pose a challenge for those with dry lips. For individuals with normal lips, the texture shouldn’t pose an issue, but those with dry lips should consider using a lip balm underneath; otherwise, the formula can become flaky. These liquid lipsticks are highly pigmented—while some shades might apply unevenly, Mars goes on smoothly and uniformly. They are also transfer-resistant, won’t bleed, and have impressive longevity—lasting 6-8 hours if you avoid greasy foods.
ColourPop recommends exfoliating your lips before applying the liquid lipstick to avoid a patchy appearance, as the dry formula does not allow for building up layers. Applying multiple layers or adding gloss can result in clumping. Nonetheless, the pigmentation is noteworthy, and the wear time extends beyond a day if not removed. Removing the lipstick can be challenging, often requiring a high-quality makeup remover.
