Vanessa Kirby shares her perspective on the significance of superhero narratives, emphasizing their emphasis on human experiences over mere superhuman abilities. In her latest project, *Fantastic Four: First Steps*, she portrays Sue Storm, known as the Invisible Woman, alongside notable co-stars including Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. This film, characterized by a unique retro-futuristic style, revitalizes the legacy of Marvel’s original family.

“Sue embodies optimism,” Kirby explains. “She is not just a typical strong superhero. She confronts challenges with Reed, navigates her brother’s irritations, and strives to maintain balance in her life. I found this aspect of her fascinating.”

Taking on this role felt particularly poignant for Kirby, as Sue Storm is expecting a child in the film, paralleling her real-life pregnancy with partner Paul Rabil. “It’s quite surreal,” she reflects. “I gleaned numerous insights from Sue without even realizing it. Many women I know have voiced concerns about balancing motherhood with their careers. I had my apprehensions too. But that’s a dated way of thinking. It’s remarkable what we can achieve.”

Even with the rigorous demands of filming *Fantastic Four* and *Avengers: Doomsday* during her pregnancy, Kirby felt a strong sense of support from her colleagues. She recognizes her stylist, Andrew Mukamal, for adjusting her wardrobe accordingly and commends her Marvel co-stars for their kindness throughout the filming process.

Kirby’s artistic journey has consistently focused on portraying vulnerability. From her role as Princess Margaret in *The Crown* to her powerful, Oscar-nominated performance in *Pieces of a Woman*, she infuses depth into each character she portrays. “I have been fortunate to engage in profoundly enriching creative endeavors,” she shares. “When the material is challenging, you have to fully immerse yourself in it.”

Outside of her cinematic ventures, Kirby remains committed to humanitarian efforts, collaborating with War Child and volunteering in refugee camps. “There are individuals making far greater sacrifices than us,” she remarks. “Our endeavors happen to receive more public attention. It’s essential to recognize this and remain thankful.”

While establishing her production company, Aluna Entertainment, and gearing up for motherhood, she is eager about the premiere of *Fantastic Four*. “We shared wonderful moments while filming,” she expresses. “I’m thrilled to share this film with audiences.”

*Fantastic Four: First Steps* is set to release in theaters on July 25.
